Summer flowering bulbs provide some of the biggest, best, and most exotic-looking blooms. spring is the best time to plant them. These blooms look beautiful growing in borders or containers. Many of the blooms make wonderful cut flowers so that you can enjoy freshly picked blooms in your home during the summer.

You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy summer flowering bulbs, here are some top growing tips:

  • Soak your bulbs in a bucket of water or tray. Doing this will wake them up and give them a good start when planted.
  • Plant frost tender bulbs or tubers, as per their instructions, in large 12-inch pots with a good quality multi-purpose compost. Water them thoroughly and leave them in a bright jp place to grow.
  • In late May the bulbs can be planted out in the garden. Water them regularly throughout the summer.
  • Just before the first frost hits the ground carefully take up the bulbs. Position them in a shallow tray in a dry place for winter. Next spring plant them again and repeat the process above.
  • Varieties like Gladiolas, Lilies, and Crocosmia can be planted straight outdoor in spring.
  • Picking flowers and deadheading regularly encourages more growth extending the flowering season.
