The air inside our home can often be a lot worse than the air we breathe outside, so it can be helpful to know a little about the causes of poor indoor air quality. Biological pollutants are one of the reasons why the air inside our homes can be bad. But what are they?

Biological pollutants are microscopic living organisms or at least fragments of them that float about invisibly in the air. Common bio pollutants include dust mites, cockroach parts, viruses, bacteria, and pollen. That is not a very nice list, is it? The fact is, however, that bio pollutants are present in practically every home.

Is there a way to limit the number of biological pollutants in your home? You can try and create as hostile an environment for them as you can which will help to reduce their numbers. Bio pollutants do particularly well in areas of high humidity. If you reduce the amount of humidity in the home, this will help to lower the number of them. A dehumidifier is one effective way to lower humidity levels. Air conditioning units can work well also. Just make sure that you change the filters and clean them regularly. Otherwise, they will end up becoming a source of bio pollutants.

Should you be concerned about high levels of biological pollutants in your home? Bio pollutants can become a real issue for some people. We will consider this subject in our next blog.
